India records 9,121 new Covid cases, tally tops 10.92 mn

New Delhi (NVI): India registered 9,121 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 1,09,25,710, according to Union Health Ministry data.

81 new COVID-19 fatalities have been reported across the country, taking the death toll to 1,55,813.

However, the daily new COVID-19 cases and deaths continue to follow a downward slide.

Currently, a total of 1,06,33,025 patients have been cured an recovered across the country, while the active cases dropped to 1.36 lakh mark and stands at 1,36,872.

In worst-affected Maharashtra, the COVID-19 cases increased to 20,67,643 followed by Kerala with 1,007019 and Karnataka with 9,45,638 positive cases. The other worst hit states are Andhra Pradesh, (8,88,899), Tamil Nadu (8,45,573), Delhi (6,37,087) and Uttar Pradesh (6,02,248).

Meanwhile, 87,20,822 beneficiaries have been vaccinated against COVID-19 in one month since beginning of inoculation drive, the Health Ministry data shows.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) data, over 20.73 crore samples tested for COVID-19 up to February 15. Of these 6,15,664 were tested yesterday.

Apart from this, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan yesterday said that the government will start administering COVID-19 vaccines to the people above 50 years of age in March during the next phase of India’s vaccination drive.
