New Delhi (NVI): The World Health Organisation (WHO) has clarified that it hasn’t reviewed or certified the efficacy of any traditional medicine for treatment of coronavirus, in an indirect reference to Patanjali’s Covid-19 vaccine – Coronil.
“.@WHO has not reviewed or certified the effectiveness of any traditional medicine for the treatment #COVID19,” the global health body said in a tweet.

WHO’s clarification came after Yoga Guru Ramdev’s Patanjali claimed that its Coronil medicine had received certification from Ayush Ministry as per WHO’s certification scheme.
On Friday, Ramdev had released a research paper by Patanjali on what he called “first evidence-based ayurvedic medicine” against coronavirus disease – Coronil.
Ramdev released the paper in the presence of Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari. To recall, Ramdev’s Haridwar-based Patanjali had last year brought out Coronil, its medicine against Covid-19.
“Coronil has received the Certificate of Pharmaceutical Product (CoPP) from the Ayush section of Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation as per the WHO certification scheme,” Patanjali had said in a statement.
Pertinent to mention here that Pantanjali had launched Coronil for treating Covid-19 infection on June 23 last year. Patanjali CEO Acharya Balkrishna had claimed that the medicine could cure Covid-19 patients within 5-14 days.
However, the AYUSH Ministry had taken Patanjali’s claim with a pinch of salt and had asked the company to stop advertisements for the drug until the issue had been examined.
