India’s covid tally rises by 10,584 fresh cases, 78 deaths

New Delhi (NVI): With 10,584 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, India’s coronavirus cases tally reached 11,016,434, the Union Health Ministry confirmed today.

The death count climbed to 1,56,463 with the novel coronavirus virus claiming 78 lives during this period, the data showed. The COVID-19 case fatality rate stood at 1.42 per cent.

Currently, more than 1.07 crore patients have been cured and recovered across the country and the total number of recoveries stand at 10,712,665.

Meanwhile, there are 1,47,306 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country, the data stated.

Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state with 21,06,094 COVID-19 cases followed by Kerala with 10,36,869 and Karnataka with 9,48,466 positive cases.

The other worst hit states are Andhra Pradesh (8,89,339), Tamil Nadu (8,48,724), Delhi (6,38,028) and Uttar Pradesh (6,02,869).

The Centre had earlier written to five states reporting a surge in cases to implement a multi-pronged strategy to curb the spread of Covid-19. While India’s cumulative positivity rate stood at 5.20 per cent on Sunday, the Health Ministry said that the country’s national average weekly positivity rate was 1.79 per cent.
