New Delhi (NVI): At least six people were killed after an explosion occurred in quarry site at Karnataka’s Chikkaballapur district today morning.
The incident occurred when the gelatin sticks they were trying to dispose of exploded accidentally at a stone quarry site in a village, according to the police.
Reportedly, the six along with the an injured person illegally possessed the gelatin sticks. Fearing police raids, people were trying to dispose of the gelatin sticks when they exploded.
Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said that a high-level investigation into the incident is underway and strict action will be taken against the guilty.
Taking to Twitter, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the incident. “Pained by the loss of lives due to a mishap at Chikkaballapur in Karnataka. Condolences to the bereaved families. Praying that the injured recover quickly,” the Prime Minister’s Office tweeted.
