New Delhi (NVI): The world’s largest cricket stadium at Motera in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad, which was inaugurated by President Ram Nath Kovind today, has been renamed as ‘Narendra Modi Stadium’.
The newly revamped stadium is the largest cricket ground in the world with a capacity of 1,10,000. The ‘Narendra Modi Stadium’ will also host its first international match today, when India will take on England in the Day-Night Test.
The much-awaited pink-ball Test between India and England in Ahmedabad will be played at Motera today. The venue which will host the 3rd and the 4th Test between India and England.
This is only the second Pink ball Test being played in India. The first such Test match was played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata against Bangladesh.
Being the largest stadium in the world, it has 11 centre pitches on the main ground. It also has 6 indoor pitches with bowling machines and 4 dressing rooms.
Home Minister Amit Shah, Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju and BCCI secretary Jay Shah, were also present at the inaugural event. Earlier today, President Ram Nath Kovind performed bhumi pujan of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave in Motera.
