16,577 fresh COVID-19 cases, 120 deaths reported in India

New Delhi (NVI): India recorded its single-day increase in coronavirus cases above 16,000 for the second consecutive day with 16,577 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, taking the overall tally to 11,063,491, the Union Health Ministry confirmed today.

The death count climbed to 1,56,825 with the novel coronavirus virus claiming 120 lives during this period, the data showed. The COVID-19 case fatality rate stood at 1.42 per cent.

Currently, more than 1.07 crore patients have been cured and recovered across the country and the total number of recoveries stand at 10,75,680. The recovery rate now stands at 97.17 per cent.

Meanwhile, there are 1,55,986 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country, which comprises 1.41 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated.

Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state with 21,29,821 COVID-19 cases followed by Kerala with 10,48,686 and Karnataka with 9,49,636 positive cases.

The other worst hit states are Andhra Pradesh (8,89,585), Tamil Nadu (8,50,096), Delhi (6,38,593) and Uttar Pradesh (6,03,232).

At the same time, India has has vaccinated more than 1.34 crore healthcare and frontline workers under the COVID-19 inoculation drive in fight against the pandemic.

“As on February 26 till 7 am, the COVID vaccination coverage was 1,34,72,643 through 2,78,915 sessions,” the Ministry of Health said.
