New Delhi (NVI): Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu continued reporting surge in daily coronavirus new cases and together they account for 82 per cent of the fresh cases reported in the past 24 hours, Union Health Ministry said.
A total of 18,327 new coronavirus cases were registered in the last 24 hours across the country.
“Maharashtra has reported the highest daily new cases at 10,216, followed by Kerala with 2,776 while Punjab reported 808 new cases,” the Health Ministry said in a statement.
However, as many as eight states are displaying an upward trajectory in daily new cases, it added.
The ministry also informed that the country active COVID-19 cases has reached 1,80,304. The present active caseload now stands at 1.61 per cent of total positive cases.
As many as 21 States and UTs have less than 1,000 active cases, while Arunachal Pradesh has reported only 3 active cases, it added.
In the past 24 hours, Kerala, Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu show a reduction in the active cases. On the other hand, Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Haryana display a rise in the active cases during the same time period.
In another development, more than 1.94 crore (1,94,97,704) vaccine doses have been administered through 3,57,478 sessions till 7 am, the statement noted
These include 69,15,661 HCWs (1st dose), 33,56,830 HCWs (2nd dose), 63,55,989 FLWs (1st dose) and 1,44,191 FLWs (2nd Dose), 3,46,758 beneficiaries aged more than 45 years with specific co-morbidities (1st Dose) and 23,78,275 beneficiaries aged more than 60 years.
Yesterday, as on day 49 of the vaccination drive, total 14,92,201 vaccine doses were given. Out of which, 11,99,848 beneficiaries were vaccinated across 18,333 sessions for 1st dose (HCWs and FLWs) and 2,92,353 HCWs and FLWs received 2nd dose of vaccine.
Furthermore, 108 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours and six States account for 85.2 per cent of the new deaths. Maharashtra saw the maximum casualties (53). Kerala follows with 16 daily deaths and Punjab reported 11 fatalities.
A total of 18 States and UTs have not reported any COVID19 deaths in the last 24 hours, the statement said.
It added that, these states are Gujarat, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Uttarakhand, Lakshadweep, Puducherry, Assam, Sikkim, Manipur, Ladakh, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Nagaland, Mizoram, A&N Islands and Daman & Diu & Dadar & Nagar Haveli.
