India’s covid tally rises by 15,388 fresh cases, 77 deaths

New Delhi (NVI): With 15,388 new coronavirus infections being reported in the last 24 hours, the overall tally has climbed to 11,244,786, the Union Health Ministry confirmed today.

The death count climbed to 1,57,930 with the novel coronavirus virus claiming 77 lives during this period, the data showed. The COVID-19 case fatality rate stood at 1.41 percent.

Currently, more than 1.08 crore patients have been cured and recovered across the country and the total number of recoveries stands at 10,899,394, which translates to a national COVID-19 recovery rate of 96.93 percent.

Meanwhile, the active cases registered an increase for the sixth consecutive day and the COVID-19 active caseload increased to 1,87,462 which now comprises 1.67 per cent of the total infections.

Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state with 22,28,471 COVID-19 cases followed by Kerala with 10,78,739 and Karnataka with 9,55,451 positive cases.

The other worst hit states are Andhra Pradesh (8,90,766), Tamil Nadu (8,55,677), Delhi (6,41,340) and Uttar Pradesh (6,04,380).
