New Delhi (NVI): A day after receiving light spells of rain in Delhi-NCR, the air quality in the national capital improved and remained in “moderate” category this morning.
This improvement was seen due to light rainfall observed in Delhi and neighbouring areas on Tuesday evening, which washed out suspended particular matter in the atmosphere and lead to improved air quality.
According to System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR) the Air Quality Index (AQI) in the national capital stood at 188 at around 8 am which falls in the ‘moderate’ category.
The city had recorded an AQI of 262 in the ‘poor’ category in the previous day.
SAFAR further said that the AQI is likely to marginally deteriorate to the ‘moderate’ to ‘poor’ category for tomorrow, while an increase in wind speed and ventilation is expected on the March 12 and AQI likely to again improve to the ‘moderate’ category.
Several areas of Delhi such as Mandi Marg recorded AQI at 141, IGI Airport (T3) at 128, Punjabi Bagh at 181 and RK Puram at 171 all in the ‘moderate’ category, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data shows.
Meanwhile, the AQI was recorded at 203 in ITO, 201 in Anand Vihar, 221 in Jahangirpuri, and 240 in Vivek Vihar, all falling under the ‘poor’ category.
As per the government agencies, an AQI between 0-50 is considered “good”, 51-100 “satisfactory”, 101-200 “moderate”, 201-300 “poor”, 301-400 “very poor” and 401-500 “severe”. An AQI above 500 falls in the “severe plus” category.
Apart from this, the maximum temperature in Delhi also improved to 33 degrees Celsius today and the minimum temperature in the city settled at 18 degrees Celsius, the Indian Metrological Department (IMD) said.
“Delhi had recorded the maximum temperature at 34.2 degrees Celsius, the previous morning,” it added.
