New Delhi (NVI): In the last few years, nearly 3,800 Kashmiri migrants have returned to Jammu and Kashmir to take up jobs under PM’s special package, 520 of them after the abrogation of Article 370, the Centre told Rajya Sabha today.

In a written reply to the Upper House of Parliament, Union Minister of State for Home, G Kishan Reddy said the PM package, which aims to provide special jobs to Kashmiri migrant youths, is an important step towards rehabilitation of these people who left the Valley due to militancy in 1990s.

In addition to this, Reddy said 2,000 more migrant candidates are likely to return to the Union Territory under the same policy this year on successful completion of their selection process.

Citing a report of the Relief Office setup in 1990 by the then government of Jammu and Kashmir, the Minister said 44,167 Kashmiri migrant families, who had to move out from the valley due to security concerns, are registered. 39,782 out of these are Hindu migrant families, he added.

Earlier on March 9, MoS Home G Kishan Reddy had told the Lok Sabha that the terrorist violence in Jammu and Kashmir has reduced significantly after the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019. The Minister also cited a decline in terror incidents in the UT in 2020 in comparison to 2019.
