New Delhi (NVI): World’s largest camel fair “Pushkar” has begun in Rajasthan from November 4, which showcases “beauty of dessert” in a unique and colourful form. 

A huge carnival held every year in Rajasthan during the month of November, with an array of musicians, magicians, dancers, acrobats, snake charmers and carousel rides to entertain the crowd. 

It is estimated that more than two lakh people across the world visit this fair that mainly focuses on trading camels and cattle. Besides, camel races are the main attraction point of the fair.

It has become significant tourists attraction globally and marks India’s largest tribal gathering along with varieties of cultural performances, competitions and art exhibits. 

Pushkar

Originally, the Pushkar Camel Fair was organised to attract local camel and cattle traders to do business during the holy Kartik Purnima festival. Today the Pushkar Mela creates a stir among travellers with its awe-inspiring celebrations at this grand event cherished with life oozing activities, cultural and musical events, thrilling camel safari tours and a stay in the traditional yet modern camps. 

The fair will conclude on November 12 on Kartik Purnima, a festival of Hindu deities. Pilgrims and tourists from across the world visit this fair to take a holy dip in Pushkar Lake and to offer prayer to the deity residing in the temple at Pushkar, Lord Brahma. 

It is once in a lifetime opportunity to witness the colour, spectacle and carnival of one of the last great traditional melas, which brings livestock, farmers, traders and villagers from all over Rajasthan.
