New Delhi (NVI): The Tamil Nadu government today ordered the schools to be closed again for all students of classes 9, 10 and 11 from March 22, amid sudden surge in coronavirus cases across the state.
The offline classes for Class 12 students, however, would continue to be conducted at the schools.
In a official order, the Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine has stated that the increasing trend of COVID cases is a ‘public health concern’. It noted that under the circumstances, it is not advisable to continue classes for student of 9th, 10th and 11th.
As for the Class 12 students, the department has pointed out that they may be permitted to function as the number of students would be less and that they have to attend the board examinations.
Hence, government of Tamil Nadu has ordered that the schools shall be closed for classes 9, 10 and 11 with effect from March 22 until further orders. The online classes shall continue for classes 9, 10 and 11 students, while hostels too would be closed.
Apart from that, the conduct of board examinations for class 10 students (for boards other than TN State Board) has been permitted. Besides, conduct of special classes for Class 10 students as well as hostels for those students would also continue to function.
The state government reopened schools for students of classes 10 and 12 from January 31 and classes for 9 and 11 were allowed form February 8.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu has registered 8,64,450 coronavirus cases with 12,852 fatalities in the state, the Health Ministry data shows.
