Northwest India to witness rise in maximum temperature: IMD

New Delhi (NVI): The parts of northwest India will experience a rise in their maximum daytime mercury levels for the next two days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

According to IMD’s weather bulletin, “Rise in maximum temperatures by 4-6 degrees Celsius over most parts of Northwest India during next 2 days.”

Moreover, a gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 2-4 degrees Celsius over most parts of Central and South India during the next 2 days and no significant change thereafter, added

The Met department also stated that a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region from March 28.

“Under its influence, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall/snowfall with thunderstorm & lightning likely over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand and also thunderstorm, lightning & hail likely over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan & Muzaffarabad during March 28-29,” IMD’s bulletin said.

Further, the Met department predicted strong lower level south-westerlies from the Bay of Bengal, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning at isolated places are very likely over Northeast India from March 29 to April 2 with maximum activity during March 30-31.

Giving details about the weather conditions in parts of India, the IMD stated that isolated heavy falls on March 29 and 31 and isolated heavy to very heavy falls on March 30 are very likely over south Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Mizoram.

Apart from that, no significant change in maximum temperatures will be observed over Gujarat and Konkan during the next two days and a gradual fall by 2-3 degrees Celsius thereafter, IMD said.

It added that no significant change in maximum temperatures over interior Maharashtra during the next 24 hours and a gradual rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius thereafter.

Meanwhile, in Delhi, the minimum temperature today was recorded at 16 degrees Celsius, and the maximum temperature settled around 34 degrees Celsius.

However, the maximum is expected to touch 38 degrees Celsius by Monday, the IMD predicted.
