New Delhi (NVI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid homage at Bangabandhu Mausoleum Complex in Tungipara, on the second day of his two-day visit to Bangladesh and became the first-ever Head of Government to do so.
PM Modi paid his tributes to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the Mausoleum.
Rahman was the first President of Bangladesh, who later on also became the prime minister. He was assassinated on August 15, 1975. Rahman is also known as the “Father of the Nation” in Bangladesh.
The Prime Minister also planted a Bakul tree sapling to commemorate this historic event.
He was accompanied by his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana.
During his visit, he also signed the visitor book at the Mausoleum complex.
He wrote- “The life of Bangabandhu epitomized the freedom struggle of the people of Bangladesh for their rights, for the preservation of their inclusive culture and their identity.”
Earlier in the day, PM Modi offered prayers at Jeshoreshwari Kali temple.
