India registers 53,480 fresh Covid-19 cases, 354 deaths

New Delhi (NVI): With 53,480 new coronavirus infections being reported in the last 24 hours, the overall tally has climbed to 12,149,335, the Union Health Ministry confirmed today.

The death count climbed to 1,62,468 with the novel coronavirus virus claiming 354 lives during this period, the data showed.

Yesterday, India had recorded 56,211 new coronavirus cases. Apart from that, 271 new COVID-19 fatalities were reported across the country.

Currently, more than 1.14 crore patients have been cured and recovered across the country and the total number of recoveries stands at 11,434,301.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 active caseload increased to 5,52,566 with an increase of 11,846 cases in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra recorded 27,918 new cases on Tuesday, a significant drop from the peak of 40,000 on Sunday, meanwhile, Karnataka reported more than 2,500 cases.

With this, Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state with 27,73,436 COVID-19 cases followed by Kerala with 11,21,931 and Karnataka with 9,92,779 positive cases.

The other worst hit states are Andhra Pradesh (9,00,805), Tamil Nadu (8,84,094), Delhi (6,60,611) and Uttar Pradesh (6,15,996).

With several parts of the country reporting a second wave of Covid-19 cases, the Centre Tuesday warned that the situation is going from “bad to worse” and urged states to achieve 100 per cent vaccination coverage of those above the age of 45 years in surge districts within the next two weeks.
