New Delhi (NVI): The schools in Madhya Pradesh for classes 1 to 8 will remain closed till April 15, in view of the rising coronavirus cases across the state.
The order to this effect was issued by the Madhya Pradesh’s School Education Department.
The circular was issued to all the collectors, district education officers and district project coordinators, to keep the schools shut amid surge in COVID-19 infections across the state.
However, for classes 9 to 12 schools will continue to operate as per the previous department circular.
Earlier on March 4, a decision was taken to shut schools for classes 1 to 8 till March 31.
The circular issued earlier laid down that classes from 9 to 12 can be conducted from April 1, but consent of parents will be mandatory for the attendance of students.
Madhya Pradesh is not the first state to extend the schools closure to contain the COVID-19 pandemic. The governments of Uttar Pradesh and Punjab has also ordered to extend the closure of schools and other educational institutions.
Meanwhile, the state has registered 2,93,179 coronavirus cases with 2,173 cases reported in last 24 hours, while active cases stands at 16,034. The death toll also reached to 3,977 in Madhya Pradesh.
