New Delhi (NVI): Bangladesh government has announced a week-long nationwide lockdown, which will come into effect from April 5, to curb the surge in Covid-19 infections.

During the lockdown, every office and court will be closed. However, the emergency services will remain out of the lockdown purview.

Furthermore, factories and industrial areas will remain open during the lockdown with limited workers in different shifts maintaining hygiene rules.

The decision was taken after the number of daily infections and deaths from the virus suddenly took a steep sweep upwards over the past few days.

Bangladesh reported 6,830 new cases in the past 24 hours with an alarming 23.28 percent single-day infection rate. With this, the tally has reached 6,24,594 in the country.

The country reported 50 deaths during this period, taking the total fatalities to 9,155.
