New Delhi (NVI): The Central Government is particularly concerned about Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Punjab, as a huge number of daily Covid-19 cases are coming from these states, Union Health Ministry said today, while stressing that the next four weeks are going to be very critical.

While addressing a press briefing here today, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said that these three states have been reporting the maximum number of daily cases and deaths.

The Health Secretary also urged for people’s participation to control the second wave of the pandemic, as India battles a sudden spike in daily Covid cases.

Apart from that, Bhushan said that India still has the least number of cases per million population, as compared to other large population countries in the world.

“Covid-19 cases per million in India are 9,192, as compared to the world average of 16,783 cases per million,” he said at the briefing.

“Countries like the US have more than 90,000 Covid cases per million, France more than 70,000 cases per million, UK more than 64,000 cases per million, but India still has 9,000 odd cases per million,” he added.

NITI Aayog Member (Health) Dr VK Paul was also present at the briefing. He said that the pandemic situation in the country has worsened with a sharp rise in cases and a large part of the population is still susceptible to the virus.
