India records 1,31,968 new COVID cases, 780 deaths in last 24 hours

New Delhi (NVI): India recorded 1,31,968 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, the biggest-ever daily surge the country has witnessed so far.

The overall tally has now climbed to 13,060,542, the Union Health Ministry confirmed today.

The death count climbed to 1,67,642 with the novel coronavirus virus claiming 780 lives during this period, the data showed.

Yesterday, India had recorded 1,26,789 new coronavirus cases. Apart from that, 685 new COVID-19 fatalities were reported across the country.

Currently, more than 1.19 crore patients have been cured and recovered across the country and the total number of recoveries stands at 11,913,292.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 active caseload increased to 9,79,608 with an increase of 69,289 cases in the last 24 hours.

Of the 1,31,968 cases, India counted on Thursday, over 56,000 infections were reported from Maharashtra, while Chhattisgarh scaled a new peak of 10,000 cases.

The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (32,29,547), Kerala (11,48,947), Karnataka (10,40,130), Andhra Pradesh (9,15,832), and Tamil Nadu (9,15,386).
