New Delhi (NVI): 162 Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) oxygen plants have been sanctioned by the Centre for installation in public health facilities in all States and 33 out of them have already been installed, the Health Ministry said today, amid concerns over shortage of medical oxygen in the country as it battles the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic.
“162 PSA oxygen plants have been sanctioned by Government of India for installation in public health facilities in all States. These will augment medical oxygen capacity by 154.19 MT,” MoHFW said in a series of tweets.
Out of 162 PSA plants sanctioned by Govt of India, 33 have already been installed – 5 in MP, 4 in Himachal Pradesh, 3 each in Chandigarh, Gujarat & Uttarakhand, 2 each in Bihar, Karnataka & TL; and 1 each in AP, CG, Delhi, Haryana, Kerala, Maharashtra, Puducherry, Punjab & UP.

Out of 162 PSA plants sanctioned, 33 have already been installed. 5 such PSAs have been installed in Madhya Pradesh, 4 in Himachal Pradesh, 3 each in Chandigarh, Gujarat and Uttarakhand, 2 each in Bihar, Karnataka & Telangana; and 1 each in Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Haryana, Kerala, Maharashtra, Puducherry, Punjab and UP, as per the Health Ministry.
The Ministry further informed that States have appreciated installation of PSA oxygen plants in their public health facilities. “In addition to 162 plants already sanctioned, they have requested Government of India for more than 100 such additional plants which are also being sanctioned,” it said.
Out of 162 PSA oxygen plants, 33 have been installed. By the end of April, 59 will be installed and by the end of May, 80 will be installed, it added.
The entire cost of 162 plants amounting to Rs 201.58 crore has been borne by the Central Government. This also includes seven-year maintenance cost to start from the fourth year onwards after three years of warranty, the Ministry said.
