New Delhi (NVI): In his address to nation on the Covid-19 situation in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tonight said that collective efforts should be made to avoid lockdown while urging the states to consider complete shutdown as last option.
He also asked the states to focus on micro containment zones as India battles a second wave of the pandemic. He said that the nation has fought against the unprecedented situation with discipline and patience and must continue to do so.

PM started his address by expressing grief for people who lost their lives due to the virus while lauding frontline workers for their efforts to save lives during the pandemic.
He said that India has also ramped up its vaccine production as the Covid surge gained momentum. PM said that The world’s most affordable Covid vaccine is being produced in India. Before his address, PM had also met the vaccine manufacturers in the country. He lauded the pharma sector for taking big steps to roll out Covid vaccines in the country as soon as the pandemic gained momentum.

Apart from that, PM said that the challenge before the country is big but it has to be tackled with resolve, courage and preparation. He said efforts are on a war footing to increase the number of beds at hospitals across the country.
He also appreciated the recent vaccination efforts to fight the deadly virus, saying that over 12 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far. He added that those above the age of 18 can also be vaccinated now from May 1st.
He said that all steps are being taken for sufficient supply of oxygen across the country amid the latest Covid surge.
