New Delhi (NVI): At least 24 COVID-19 patients died today after oxygen supply interrupted following the leakage from an oxygen storage plant outside a hospital in Maharashtra’s Nashik district.

As per official, out of 150 patients at the hospital, 23 were on ventilator support at the time of the incident while the remaining were on oxygen support.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has announced financial assistance of Rs five lakh each to the families of the deceased.

“I appeal to people to not indulge in any kind of politics,” Thackeray said in a statement.

“I cannot express my grief in words. Such incidents are devastating, especially when we are trying hard to save every COVID-19 patient…I do not know how to console the families who lost their members in this accident. Though it is an accident, there will be a thorough probe into it,” he added.

According to the information, the leakage caused oxygen supply to be halted for nearly 30 minutes due to which, condition of patients on oxygen support in the meantime deteriorated and lost the battle against the virus at Dr Zakir Hussain Hospital.
