New Delhi (NVI): The lockdown in Delhi was today extended for another week till May 17, with stricter curbs and suspension of Metro Rail services from tomorrow till the lockdown period.
Making the announcement, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the lockdown will remain in place from 5 am tomorrow till 5 am on May 17.
“Corona cases have reduced, but there can’t be any relaxation. The Delhi government has decided to extend the lockdown for another week,” he said.
“Considering the safety of our people, this lockdown will be more stringent than before,” he added.
Due to the lockdown in Delhi, the positivity rate has come down from 35% to 25% in the last few days, Kejriwal said.
“We used this lockdown to increase medical resources in Delhi. All the people of Delhi contributed immensely to this,” the CM said.
He claimed that the vaccination programme is being run at a rapid pace.
“Public is happy with the arrangements of vaccination made at the government schools of Delhi,” he claimed even as people continue to wait endlessly to get vaccinated.
“But there is a shortage of stock right now. It is expected that the centre will provide full support in this, ” he added.
