Monsoon hits East and NE India; heavy rains likely today

New Delhi: As southwest monsoon advanced further, parts of East and Northeast India are likely to receive heavy rainfall along with wind exceeding up to 50 kmph today.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), “Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into the central Arabian Sea covering seven parts of the country including the entire Northeast.

Heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura.

Strong Winds (speed 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph) very likely over Southwest & Westcentral Arabian Sea. Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas, the IMD said.

Fairly widespread rainfall activities are likely over the Northeastern states and adjoining East India over the next 4-5 days.

The monsoon has also advanced into some more parts of Maharashtra, Telangana and into the entire parts of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Northeastern states, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim due to the strengthening of Southwestern winds and cyclonic circulation over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and its neighbourhood, it said.
