New Delhi : External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will travel to Kuwait tomorrow on a three-day visit during which he will convey personal message of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Amir of Kuwait and hold meeting with his counterpart to discuss how to boost cooperation in various fields, including in fight against Covid.

During his first visit to Kuwait as External Affairs Minister, Jaishankar will also address the Indian community in Kuwait, External Affairs Ministry said in a press release today.

Kuwait, which hosts around one million Indians, is among the largest trading partner and a major supplier of oil to India.

Jaishankar is visiting Kuwait at the invitation of Foreign Minister of Kuwait Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah, the release said.

“During the visit, he will hold high level meetings and also address the Indian community in Kuwait,” the MEA said.

“He will also carry a personal letter from Hon’ble Prime Minister of India to H.H. the Amir of Kuwait,” it added.

The year 2021-22 marks the 60th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Kuwait, which enjoy traditionally warm and close bilateral relationship and have strong people-to-people connect.

“In recent weeks, to help fight the second wave of COVID-19 in India, Government of Kuwait has been in the forefront to ensure sustained and reliable supply of Liquid Medical Oxygen to India including by establishing an Air/Sea Bridge,” the MEA release said.

Earlier this year, Al-Sabah visited India on March 17-18, when both the countries agreed to establish a Joint Commission at Foreign Ministers’ level.
