Monsoon to hit North India; Rain, thunderstorm likely over Delhi-NCR today

New Delhi: Ahead of Monsoon, parts of North India are likely to witness thunderstorm with heavy rainfall and gusty winds exceeding up to 50 kmph, the IMD said today.

Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 40-50 kmph) at isolated places very likely over Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and Rajasthan, it said.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the national capital is expected to witness early monsoon this year.

The expected arrival date of monsoon in Delhi this time is around June 15 and it would cover the entire country in the next 2-3 days.

“Thunderstorm with moderate to heavy intensity rain and gusty winds with speed of 30-40 Km/h would occur over and adjoining areas of entire Delhi & NCR ( Badurgarh, Gurugram, Manesar, Faridabad, Hindon AF Station, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida),” the IMD said.

Meanwhile, the IMD in its daily weather bulletin forecasted, “With lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) at isolated places very likely over Uttar Pradesh, Kerala & Mahe and Telangana.

With lightning at isolated places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Konkan & Goa, Lakshadweep, Coastal & North Interior Karnataka and Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, it said.
