Monsoon reaches Delhi; brings respite from heatwave

New Delhi: After a long wait, the southwest monsoon has further advanced into the remaining parts of the country including Delhi bringing respite from the heatwave.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the national capital would continue to witness light to moderate intensity rain along with thunderstorms and winds exceeding up to 40 Kmph over and adjoining areas of most places of Delhi and NCR region today.

With the rainfall over Delhi and the remaining parts of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, the southwest monsoon has covered the entire country today.

“In association with the continued prevalence of moist easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal in the lower levels since past 4 days, enhanced cloud cover and scattered to fairly widespread rainfall, the southwest monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of the country including Delhi, remaining parts of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan,” the IMD said.

The national capital has recorded a minimum rainfall of up to 2.5 cm from yesterday till today morning, it said.

Thus, the Southwest Monsoon has covered the entire country on 13th July, against the normal date of 08th July, the IMD said adding, “the monsoon in Delhi occurred on 13th July against the normal date of 27th June.”

13.07.2021) (in cm), over areas where monsoon advanced today—Safdarjung-2.5, Ayanagar-1.3, Palam-2.4, CHO Lodi Road-0.9, Ridge-1.0, Gurugram- 5.1, Faridabad-2.8, Panipath-1.0, Rohtak-2.2, Hisar-3.3, Fatehabad-3.0, Jaisalmer- 7.7, Bikaner-6.8, Churu-9.0,” the IMD said.
