Srinagar: Continuing with the successful streak in anti-terror operations, security forces today eliminated two more terrorists in Kashmir.

The slain terrorists belonged to the so-called ‘The Resistance Front’, which is a shadow group of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

They were killed in an armed encounter with security forces in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

The gunfight erupted in Okey village of Kulgam when joint teams of police, Army and CRPF were carrying out a cordon and search operation in the area following an input regarding presence of terrorists.

“During the search operation, as the joint search party proceeded towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party,” the police said in a statement.

The security forces retaliated effectively, leading to an encounter in which two terrorists were killed.

The killed terrorists, identified later as Amir Ahmad Wani and Sameer Ahmad Khan, were part of a group involved in several terror cases, the police said.

“As per police records, the killed terrorist Amir Ahmad was a categorized terrorist linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT (TRF), however the other killed terrorist joined terror folds recently,” the statement said.

An AK-47 rifle, a pistol were among the recoveries from them, it said.

Security forces have killed several terrorists in Kashmir over the last few days.

The operation in Kulgam took place a day after a top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Saleem Parray and his foreign accomplice were killed in two separate gunfights on Srinagar outskirts.
