LPU Chancellor Ashok Mittal becomes Rajya Sabha member

Chandigarh: Ashok Mittal, Chancellor of Lovely Professional University (LPU), has been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha, Upper House of Parliament, as an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) nominee from Punjab.

Punjab Assembly Secretary-cum-Returning Officer Surinder Pal Singh informed that all five AAP candidates have been declared winners unopposed. 

Mittal and other AAP candidates had filed their nomination papers on March 21 and yesterday was the last day for withdrawal of candidature.

AAP has 92 of the 117 seats in the state Assembly.

LPU, established in 2005, is a Private University situated on the outskirts of Jalandhar, Punjab.

With the largest single-campus university in India, the infrastructure offers facilities to more than 30,000 students, has over 4000 faculties and staff and runs 200 plus programs.

The rags-to-riches story of Ashok Mittal and his elder brother Ramesh Mittal, who is LPU Group Chairman, is an inspiring one.
