Srinagar: Even though Kashmiri Pandits may have been driven out of Kashmir, their Gods continue to make their presence felt in the Valley which now has cent per cent Muslim population.
In a latest instance, a unique 3-headed sculpture of Lord Vishnu, possibly dating back to 9th century AD, has been found in Pulwama district of South Kashmir.
The sculpture has been recovered from the River Jhelum, according to Mushtaq Ahmad Beigh, Deputy Director Archives, Archaeology and Museums Kashmir.
He said the sculpture is finely-carved, well-dressed and polished, showing the sculptural style in use in 9th century AD at Avantipora, located in Pulwama district.
The sculpture was found during extraction of sand from the river by some labourers, Beigh said.
It was handed over to the Police and after legal formalities, the sculpture was handed over to Deputy Director Archives, Archaeology and Museums Kashmir.
The sculpture is now housed in SPS Museum in Srinagar for further studies.
