Jammu: Security forces today foiled a possible terror attack in Jammu region by eliminating 2 terrorists in a gunfight which also left a security personnel dead and 4 others injured.

The encounter in Sunjwan area of Jammu started after security forces laid a cordon of a particular locality following inputs about presence of terrorists who were planning some “action”, police said.

Significantly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Samba, adjoining Jammu district two days from now.

The cordon was laid late last night and hours later the hiding terrorists fired at the forces in the darkness.

This resulted in the death of a paramilitary personnel and injuries to 4 other security personnel, the police said.

The forces retaliated hard, killing 2 terrorists this morning, IGP Jammu Mukesh Kumar said.

Two AK rifles, lots of ammunition, satellite phones and other incriminating material has been recovered from the encounter site, he said.

Kumar said it could be a possibility that the terrorists were ‘fidayeen’ (suicide attackers).

He said the cordon was laid in the area after inputs that terrorists were hiding there and planning some “action”.
