Srinagar: Averting a possible attack, security forces today killed three Pakistani terrorists in an encounter in Kashmir while losing one policeman of Jammu and Kashmir police.
The “chance” encounter took place in Kreeri area of Baramulla district, which borders Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, police said.
The gunfight occurred at a security check post after a car with terrorists was intercepted by the security personnel.
The security forces had received specific intelligence about movement of terrorists in a Santro car from Puthkah area to Mirangund area, police and Defence Ministry officials said.
In view of the input, a joint team of Baramulla police and the Army set up an ambush.
When the suspect car was intercepted, the terrorists opened fire, triggering an encounter.
“Three Pakistani terrorists (were) killed. One JKP personnel also attained martyrdom in this chance encounter,” said a tweet by Kashmir police, quoting IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar.
Incriminating materials, including arms and ammunition, were recovered from the encounter site, he said.
IGP Kumar termed the killing of the three militants as a huge success for the forces and said a major attack has been averted.
“The three Pakistani terrorists were planning to carry out a big attack is Srinagar and their elimination is a major success, he said.
These terrorists were active in this area for the last 3-4 months and were being tracked by police and security forces, the officials said.
