New Delhi: The government today said the Indian Army had thwarted an attempt by the Chinese troops to encroach upon the Indian territory in Tawang sector of Arunachal Pradesh, resulting in injuries to a few soldiers but no deaths.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh told Parliament in a statement that on December 9, the troops of Chinese Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) tried to change the status quo of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Yang-tse area of Tawang sector by attempting to encroach upon the territory there.
The Indian troops tackled it with a firm resolve and the face-off led to a scuffle, he said.
The Indian troops bravely prevented the Chinese PLA from encroaching the Indian territory and forced them to return to their posts, the Minister said.
In the clash, a few soldiers on both sides were injured, he said.
“I can tell this House that none of our soldiers died, nor did anyone receive serious injuries,” Singh said.

“Due to the timely intervention by the Indian Military commanders, the PLA soldiers returned to their locations,” he added.
After this incident, the local commander of the Indian Army held a Flag Meeting with his Chinese counterpart and told him to desist from such actions and ensure peace along the boundary, Singh said.
The matter was also raised with China through the diplomatic channels, the Defence Minister said.
“I want to assure the House that our armed forces are fully committed to protect the sovereignty of the country and always ready to thwart any such intentions (like that of China),” he said.
