Terrorist killed in Kashmir encounter

Srinagar: A Kashmiri terrorist, belonging to Pakistan-based Al Badr outfit, was killed in an encounter with Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kulgam district of South Kashmir today.

The terrorist, identified as Adil Majeed Lone, was gunned down in Hawoora village in an operation launched late last night on the basis of specific intelligence input.

“Joint Operation launched by #IndianArmy & @JmuKmrPolice during the intervening night of 26/27 Jun in village Hawoora, Kulgam. The area was cordoned (off), contact established and firefight ensued.

“01xTerrorist eliminated along with the recovery of 01xPistol & other war like stores,” Srinagar-based Army spokesman tweeted.

The Police said a joint team of Indian Army and Police launched a search in the village following intelligence input about presence of terrorists there.

During the search operation, when the joint search party approached the suspected spot, the hiding terrorist fired indiscriminately upon the security forces in which one policeman got injured, the police spokesman said.

The injured cop was shifted to hospital for treatment.

“The hiding terrorist was given an opportunity to surrender. But he kept firing on the joint forces,” the spokesman said.

The fire was effectively retaliated and in the ensuing encounter, the terrorist was killed.

His identity was established later as a Adil Majeed Lone of Al-Badr outfit.

Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including a Pistol with live ammunition and a grenade were recovered from the site of the encounter, the police spokesman said.
