Jammu: A sudden spurt in terrorism is being witnessed in the otherwise peaceful Jammu region of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory, with 3 incidents being registered here in a span of 3 days.
The first terror strike took place on June 9 when a bus carrying Hindu pilgrims was attacked in Reasi district of Jammu province.
At least 9 people were killed and 33 injured after a terrorist fired at the bus which then fell into a gorge.
The passengers, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi, were returning after paying obeisance at Shiv Khori temple in Reasi and going to Katra.
Two days later, on June 11, two terrorists swooped on a village in Hiranagar in Kathua district of Jammu at around 7.45 pm.
They fired at some villagers who got alerted on seeing the armed men.
Security forces immediately rushed to the spot and a gunfight followed
Two persons were injured and one of them, a CRPF man succumbed to the injuries later.
Soon after, one terrorist was killed by the security forces.
However, the other terrorist took shelter in a house and continued to fire after intervals.
He was neutralised this afternoon.
A large quantity of arms and ammunition has been recovered from them.
According to the police, the slain terrorists appeared to have infiltrated recently from Pakistan, which is a hostile neighbour continuously trying to cause bloodshed in Jammu and Kashmir.
Meanwhile, in Doda district of Jammu, a group of terrorists attacked a security picked late last night.
Five army personnel and a policeman were injured in this incident.
An encounter followed and is still going on, as per the police.
