New Delhi (NVI): A former cadet of National Cadet Corps (NCC), Prime Minister Narendra Modi today led the country-wide celebrations of 71st Raising Day of the NCC, the largest uniformed youth organisation in the world, as he hailed the members of the organisation and talked to some of them in the 6th episode of his ‘Mann ki Baat 2.0.
“Every year, the fourth Sunday of the month of November is celebrated as NCC Day. At the outset on the occasion of NCC, Day, I extend my best wishes to all NCC Cadets, both former & present. More so, since I too have been a cadet once; I consider myself to be a cadet even, today. All of us know that India’s National Cadet Corps, NCC is one of the largest uniformed youth organizations of the world,” Modi said in his ‘Mann ki Baat’ broadcast today.
“It is a Tri-services organization comprising the Army, the Navy and the Air Force. NCC means, cultivating the qualities of Leadership, patriotism, selfless service discipline & hard work as an integral part of one’s character; the thrilling journey of imbibing them into one’s habits,” he added.
The celebrations began yesterday with Defence Secretary Dr Ajay Kumar and DG NCC Lt Gen Rajeev Chopra paying homage to the martyrs, who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation, at the National War Memorial in New Delhi.
The NCC Raising Day was also celebrated all over the country with the cadets participating in marches, cultural activities and social development programmes.
During the current year, the NCC cadets have contributed immensely in relief operations carried out during floods in Maharashtra, Bihar and Kerala. The cadets also participated wholeheartedly in the Swachhta Abhiyan, Swachhta Cycle Rally, Mega Pollution Pakhwada and played a pivotal role in spreading awareness about various government initiatives like Digital Literacy, International Day of Yoga, Blood Donation Camps, Tree Plantation and immunisation programs etc.
NCC girl cadets successfully summited the Mount Tenchenkhang (6,010 metres) in Sikkim and Boy cadets successfully summited Mount HanumarTibba (5,982 metres) in Himachal Pradesh.
