Srinagar, July 20 (NVI):- People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti today hit out at the BJP in the context of a recent directive by the administration in Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh to shopowners and kiosk owners to display their names.

Talking to reporters here, she alleged that the BJP and its government at the Centre wants to destroy the Constitution of India which guarantees equal rights to all.

“This is clear that the BJP wants to destroy the Constitution which gives an individual every open right… they are torturing it,” she said while responding to a question about the order issued in Muzaffarnagar.

Mehbooba referred to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s oft-repeated contention during the last Lok Sabha elections that the BJP would change the Constitution if they returned to power and said that he was right in saying so.

The PDP leader said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was silent on the controversial order and asked him to speak up to say whether he supports or not the directive of Muzaffarnagar administration.

“They (BJP) came down to 240 from 300 (Lok Sabha) seats but they are not mending their ways,” she said, adding this serves as a warning to those who supported the party in previous elections.

She said the BJP’s policies target Muslims initially and subsequently, they (BJP) would target Dalits and others.

She spoke to the media after former trade union leader Khurshid Alam rejoined PDP.

Mehbooba also criticized the government’s handling of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Whether it’s our citizens or Indian soldiers serving our country, they both are cannon fodder for the government of India,” she alleged.

Despite the government’s claims, militancy has not been eradicated, she said.

“Far from being wiped out, militancy has taken root in formerly peaceful areas,” the former CM said, describing it as a significant failure of the current administration. (News Vibes of India)
