J&K: 2 soldiers killed, 2 civilians injured in Anantnag gunfight

Srinagar, Aug 10 (NVI): Two soldiers have been killed and 2 civilians injured as a gunfight raged tonight between a group of terrorists and security forces in Kokernag area of Anantnag district in Kashmir.

The Army said, in a post on X, that a joint operation was launched on the basis of a specific input.

“Contact was established and firefight ensued, during which two personnel have been injured and evacuated from the area,” Army said.

“Based on specific intelligence input, a Joint Operation was launched by #IndianArmy, @JmuKmrPolice & @crpf_srinagar today in general area Kokernag, Anantnag. Contact was established and firefight ensued. Two personnel have been injured and evacuated from the area. Operations are in progress,” Army post

The two soldiers succumbed to their injuries later, sources said.

Three civilians were also injured in the indiscriminate firing by the terrorists who were attempting to break the security cordon and flee, the sources said.

The operation is going on and further details are awaited.
