Kabul: The Taliban rulers of Afghanistan have issued a stern warning to Pakistan after the latter resorted to cross-border firing in Torkham and escalated tensions.

“Our security forces are ready to defend their territory in any situation and respond accordingly to any improper action,” the Taliban regime’s spokesman said in a statement today.

He said Pakistani forces opened fire on Afghan border forces in Ghorki area of Torkham yesterday (Monday), prompting retaliation.

As a result, two Pakistani posts were destroyed, he said.

He said the Pakistani forces targeted the houses of civilians, killing a woman and two children.

According to reports, the Talibani retaliation resulted in the killing of 3 Pakistani soldiers and injuries to 5.

The Torkham border crossing was closed for several hours because of the gunfight and it was reopened this evening after talks between the two sides.
