Srinagar, Aug 15 (NVI):- Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday posted Nalin Prabhat as Special Director General of J&K police.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on Wednesday sanctioned the inter-cadre deputation of Nalin Prabhat, Director-General of the National Security Guard (NSG), from the Andhra Pradesh to Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre for a tenure of three years.

The decision came over three months after the senior IPS officer was appointed as the NSG DG. Earlier, the ACC had approved his appointment as the NSG DG until August 31, 2028.

As per order, Prabat will take charge of Director General Police J&K on the retirement of current DGP RR Swain.”Consequent upon joining the AGMUT Cadre on inter-cadre deputation from Andhra Pradesh Cadre, Sh. Nalin Prabhat, IPS (AP:1992) is hereby posted to Jammu & Kashmir as Special Director General (SDG), Jammu & Kashmir Police with immediate effect and till 30.09.2024.” reads the order

“Further, upon retirement of Sh. R.R. Swain, IPS (AGMUT:1991) on 30.09.2024, Sh. Nalin Prabhat, IPS (AP:1992) is appointed as DGP, Jammu & Kashmir w.e.f. 01.10.2024 and until further orders.” It reads further.

Before joining the NSG, Prabhat, a 1992-batch IPS officer, worked as an additional director general in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and had headed its formation in J&K.

According to a source from the national counter-terrorism force ACC, the Centre is considering appointing Prabhat the new Director General of Police of Jammu and Kashmir, amid the rising terror attacks in the Jammu region since June 9, including many that inflicted casualties on security forces.
