Srinagar, Sep 10 (NVI): Questioning as to why BJP hasn’t fielded its candidate in border constituency of Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, senior National Conference leader Dr Sajad Shafi Uri today said Taj Mohiuddin is a proxy candidate of BJP. He was quick to add that Uri will witness a direct contest between “NC and BJP’s proxy candidate.”
Addressing a press conference, Dr Sajad Shafi, who is the son of senior most NC leader and former minister Dr Shafi Uri, said Taj Mohiuddin was associated with Congress for over two decades. “After parting ways from Congress, he joined Ghulam Nabi Azad’s Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP). He left DPAP as well and flew all the way to Delhi,” Dr Sajad said, adding that “In Delhi, he met BJP mentors who gave him full Ashirwad. They also directed Apni Party president Altaf Bukhari to support him in Uri.”

Dr Shafi said Taj Mohiuddin is a BJP’s proxy candidate and Apni Party is the ‘B’ team of BJP. “If I am wrong, why hasn’t the BJP fielded its candidate in Uri,” he asked. “Things are clear enough. With Taj Mohiudin getting full support of BJP, Uri will witness a direct contest between NC and BJP’s proxy candidate.
Taj Mohiudin, the former Health minister of the erstwhile State of J&K, addressed a media along with Apni Chief Altaf Bukhari in Srinagar yesterday where Bukhari extended full support to him from Uri. The PDP that had earlier extended support to Taj withdrew its support after the press conference and fielded its own candidate in Uri.
Dr Sajad Uri said that now that things are clear and people of Uri have to decide whether they want to give votes to NC or BJP’s proxy candidate. He said in the upcoming elections, BJP, Apni Party and Peoples Conference are supporting independent candidates with the sole aim of defeating NC. “But NC will overcome the challenges and will emerge victorious.
NC is committed to fight for the restoration of Article 370, give jobs to youth and address all genuine grievances of people of Kashmir,” he said—(News Vibes of India)
