Srinagar, Oct 31 (NVI): Congress President Tariq Karra on Tuesday said that the observance of October 31 as UT Foundation Day, is black day for Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking to reporters at Party headquarters on the 40th death anniversary of the former PM Indira Gandhi, Karra said that they will not be a part of its celebration in any way.

He said that this view resonates with many residents who feel their state was reduced to a Union Territory without their consent, eroding their autonomy.

On security reviews, Karra said they lack an “inclusive and holistic approach” due to the absence of local leadership in the process.

Security reviews should involve the CM or a representative, Karra said adding that this gap could lead to confusion and conflicting directions on security matters, which he argued could harm both the state’s welfare and national interests.

On Congress party’s commitment to full statehood for Jammu and Kashmir, Karra said that the promise must be honored. “We are ready to fight for the complete statehood, whether inside or outside the Assembly or on the roads,” he said, urging the Prime Minister and Home Minister to fulfill commitments made both in the House and to the people of J&K.

Karra questioned the reasons for withholding statehood, especially after the government claimed security improvements in the J&K.   (News Vibes of India)
