Bandipora,17 Nov (NVI) : The 85-kilometer Gurez-Bandipora road remains shut to traffic following heavy snowfall at Razdan Top, where 16 inches of fresh snow accumulated on Sunday morning rendering the route impassable.
The Border Roads Organization (BRO) has deployed machinery to clear the snow and restore connectivity at the earliest. However, officials confirmed that the road will remain closed until further orders.
The route was initially closed on Tuesday evening due to snowfall in the area. Overnight rescue operations were carried out to assist approximately 20 stranded vehicles, including an ambulance. The district administration, J&K Police, the Army, and 56-RCC Beacon coordinated efforts to ensure the safe evacuation of passengers. While the road was briefly reopened on Wednesday afternoon, heavy snowfall forced its closure again.
Authorities have issued a travel advisory, making the use of skid chains mandatory for vehicles on this road. Commuters have been urged to verify road conditions before planning their travel to or from the region.
Snow clearance operations by BRO are in full swing, and authorities are working diligently to resume traffic movement as soon as conditions allow.—(News Vibes of India)
