Sensex, Nifty slip into red as markets open

Mumbai (NVI): The Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty today opened on a negative note during the morning trade session.

The 30-share BSE Sensex was down 119.42 points or 0.29 per cent to 40,556.03, while the 50-scrip NSE Nifty fell 36.90 points or 0.31 per cent to 11,957.30 in early trade sessions.

Meanwhile, the Indian Rupee also opened on a weak note and depreciated 12 paise against the US dollar to trade at 71.78,  amid weak opening in domestic equities.

Yes Bank was among the top losers which was down about 3.78 per cent. Besides Yes Bank, the top losers in the Sensex pack were Tata Steel, Vedanta, and Larsen & Toubro.

Conversely, Tata Motors and ICICI Bank were among the top gainers.

On the other hand, Nifty Metal, down to 1.6 per cent and Nifty PSU Bank, down to 0.6 per cent but Nifty IT gained 0.7 per cent.

On Tuesday, the BSE Sensex closed at 40,675.45, down 0.31 per cent or 126.72 points and Nifty closed at 11,994.20, showing a dip of 0.45 per cent or 54 points.

The Rupee on Tuesday had closed at 71.66 against the US dollar.
