Srinagar, Jan 08(NVI) In a significant victory against drug trafficking, Srinagar Police seized 8 kilograms of heroin and arrested two key suspects during a routine checkpoint operation at Barthana Crossing in Qamarwari in Srinagar.

Police said that the police team intercepted a Tata Sumo (Registration No. JK05D-1837) and after a thorough search, discovered 6 kilograms of heroin hidden beneath the driver’s seat. A further 2 kilograms were recovered during a personal search of the suspects, with each carrying 1 kilogram of heroin in polythene bags.

The arrested individuals have been identified as
Anas Ajaz Awan, son of Ajaz Ahmad Awan, a resident of Dildar Tangdar, Kupwara and Zahid Ahmad Sheikh, son of Nazir Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Channipora, Tanghdar, Kupwara.

The narcotics and the vehicle used in the crime have been seized as evidence, and an FIR (No. 03/2025) under sections 8/21 and 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Parimpora.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the seized heroin was smuggled from Pakistan, suggesting involvement in a cross-border drug trafficking network. The police are now tracing the links within the syndicate, working to dismantle the entire operation and apprehend all involved parties.

The J&K Police have reiterated their zero-tolerance stance on drug trafficking and called on citizens to report any suspicious activities to help ensure a safer, drug-free community. The public is urged to contact the nearest police station or dial 112 to share information.

This operation underscores the police’s ongoing commitment to combat narcotics trafficking and protects public health and safety.(News Vibes of India)
