Srinagar, Jan 16(NVI): Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have temporarily closed several key roads, including Gurez-Bandipora, Mughal Road, and Sinthan Top, as a safety measure following adverse weather predictions.
These closures come in light of forecasts warning of rain and snow in the region, which could lead to hazardous road conditions.
An official confirmed that the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway is currently open for traffic. However, commuters are being advised to follow lane discipline to prevent congestion and ensure smooth movement. “Travelers should plan their journeys during daylight hours and avoid unnecessary stops, especially in vulnerable areas like Ramban and Banihal, where there is a high risk of landslides and shooting stones due to the weather,” the official said.
Additionally, traffic on the strategic SSG (Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri) road will only be allowed after clearance from the Border Roads Organization (BRO). Other key routes, such as the Bhaderwah-Chamba road, Mughal Road, and Sinthan Top, remain closed due to snow accumulation. However, the Karnah-Kupwara road has been cleared and is open for travel.
The Meteorological Department has forecast light rain and snow at scattered locations across Jammu and Kashmir from January 16 to January 19. With the possibility of further snowfall and deteriorating road conditions, travelers have been urged to stay updated on the latest advisories and exercise extreme caution.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of residents and travelers alike. Contingency plans are also in place to address any emergencies that may arise due to adverse weather conditions.(News Vibes of India)
