Kathua, Jan 25(NVI): Massive searches were launched in the Billawar area of Kathua district of Jammu after an exchange of fire between Army personnel and suspected terrorists late last night.

The incident unfolded around 1:20 AM near Panchayat Batod, under the jurisdiction of Police Station Billawar.

Defence sources said that personnel from the 7 Sikh Li Regiment, stationed at TOB Moar, noticed suspicious movement and immediately opened fire. The suspects retaliated, leading to a 30-minute exchange of gunfire.

“The Army responded swiftly to the threat, and no injuries to security forces have been reported. Combing operations are underway to ensure there is no further risk in the area,” the sources said.

Preliminary reports suggest the suspects might have been terrorists attempting to infiltrate into hinterland or attack forces. Their numbers and identities remain unknown, and no weapons or equipment have been recovered so far.

The incident, coming just a day before Republic Day celebrations, has heightened security in the district. Additional forces have been deployed, and security checks have been intensified to ensure the safety of citizens and prevent any untoward incidents during the national event.

Local residents have been urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with the authorities. The situation is being closely monitored, and further updates are awaited.(News Vibes of India)
