Srinagar, Jan 29(NVI): Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid has approached the Delhi High Court, requesting interim bail in connection with the ongoing terror-funding case to enable him to attend the budget session of Parliament.
The session is scheduled to begin on January 31 and will run until April 4.
Rashid, who represents the Baramulla constituency and was elected in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, has been incarcerated in Tihar Jail since 2019. He was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in relation to a 2017 terror-funding investigation. The case alleges that Rashid was involved in conspiring to wage war against India and inciting violence in Jammu and Kashmir. Additionally, prominent figures such as Hafiz Saeed, the chief of Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Syed Salahuddin, leader of Hizbul Mujahideen, are implicated in the same case.
In his application, Rashid requested to be granted custody parole for the duration of the budget session, citing his need to represent his constituents in Parliament. His legal team argued that the delay in processing his bail has resulted in a lack of representation for his constituency during important legislative discussions.(News Vibes of India)
