Srinagar, Jan 29(NVI): National Conference (NC) Member of Parliament Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi met Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the influential religious and political leader of the Hurriyat Conference, in Delhi today.
Despite their contrasting political views, the two leaders held a significant discussion focusing on Jammu and Kashmir’s evolving political landscape, particularly in light of the abrogation of Article 370, the demand for restoration of statehood, and the ongoing issue of political prisoners.
The meeting also touched on broader issues, such as the Wakf Amendment Bill, the struggles of Muslims across India, and concerns over the reservation policy in the region. Mehdi, who had previously participated in protests against the current reservation system, and Mirwaiz, both voiced their concerns about its impact on the local community.
Mirwaiz confirmed the meeting, emphasizing that Mehdi’s visit was more of a religious exchange rather than a purely political one. The hour-long interaction signified a rare dialogue between two prominent figures, each representing different aspects of Kashmir’s complex political and religious fabric.(News Vibes of India)
