Srinagar, May 13 (NVI): Security forces today gunned down 3 terrorists, including a top commander of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) outfit, who were involved in a number of killings in the Kashmir valley over the past few years.
The terrorists — two locals and one possibly a Pakistani national — were killed in a gunfight in a forest in Kellar area of Shopian in South Kashmir this morning.
The two local terrorists were identified as Shahid Kuttay and Adnan Shafi Dar, both residents of Shopian.
Shahid had joined the LeT on March 8, 2023 and was involved in multiple attacks, including the April 8 firing at Danish Resort in which 2 German tourists and a driver were injured.
He was also involved in the killing of BJP Sarpanch in Heerpora in Shopian on May 18, 2024 and his role is suspected in the killing of a Territorial Army (TA) personnel in Kulgam on February 3 this year, a police official said.
Shahid was categorized as an ‘A’ Category terrorist, which means he was among the most wanted.
Adnan Shafi joined LeT on October 18 last year and was involved in the killing of a non-local labourer at Wachi, Shopian on the same day.
The identity of the third terrorist is being ascertained, the official added.
The gunfight took place after security forces cordoned the area following input about presence of terrorists there. (NVI)
